Lissom means “supple and graceful”. When deciding on a brand name, our requirement was for a name that was top-of-mind and easily pronounced by a global audience. The letter “L” was one that we were drawn to immediately, not least because most skincare houses out there have the letter “L” (Lancome, Estee Lauder, Jurlique, L’Oreal, Elizabeth Arden…), but also because “L” is one of the more memorable sounds that can be recalled easily by people who hear of our brand only once or twice. The added meaning was a bonus.
We want to add our own stories to the brand too, hence the hashtag, #lissomstories – we will be using this hashtag on our blogs, social media posts and brand collateral to invite people to share their stories about skincare and botanicals (it can be anything – even a tart recipe using lemons from your garden!), and we want to promote the story of New Zealand to others as this is such a pure, natural country to be making our skincare products in.
We believe in the power of natural botanicals and actives to effectively nourish and keep skin healthy. For instance, the salt of hyaluronic acid in the Rose Moisture Boost Sleeping Mask is extremely good at retaining water (and don’t let the word “acid” deter you as it is a naturally occurring carbohydrate in the body!), and provitamin B5 is a super-safe vitamin that provides ample hydration.
Our products have been formulated meticulously with the safest ingredients, with low toxicity being a key factor in the selection process without compromising texture and product quality. Each ingredient that goes into our formulations has a low (i.e. “good”) score on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) database.
We have read and seen first-hand the long-term effects toxins have on skin, and with the knowledge that 60% of what you put on your skin goes through the barrier of your skin (i.e. is “trans-dermal”), we only want the best for our customers. Our co-founder, Lydia, was pregnant when formulating our products, and the safety of each ingredient was paramount to us getting our formulations confirmed.
Our products are deemed suitable for all skin types and should not cause breakouts and/or irritate skin. We recommend a patch test before use however, as each person has varying levels of skin sensitivities and some may be sensitive to the natural botanical extracts and low level of naturally-derived fragrance that is added to our products.
